UBA students will march in protest against the installation of bars in the Ecological Reserve

Tomorrow the students of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the National University of Buenos Aires (UBA) called for a march to the Buenos Aires Legislature in protest of the beginning of a plan of works by the Government of the City in the Costanera Norte Ecological Reserve, where they will install two gastronomic premises. As reported to Telam, there will be a rally from 4 p.m. at the Obelisk, where the Buenos Aires Legislature will be mobilized, together with environmental organizations.” This is a terrible advance on our reserve, and the responsibility falls into the hands of Larreta, “said the students who oppose, punctually, the construction of two gastronomy premises planned in a natural area of 23 hectares in which some 800 species of living beings coexist and which is considered a reservoir of biodiversity. In turn, the Buenos Aires Government started this week with the works to raise some buildings, after presenting to the UBA a report in which it considered that the environmental impact study was not necessary since the proposal is part of “the categorization ‘Without Environmental Survey’.” Until the study is carried out, the works are illegal and it is urgent that they stop,” they said from the Student Center of the Faculty of Natural and Exact Sciences. Then they added: “We cannot allow the privatization of the commons, the public patrimony, of the Reserve, nor the destruction of its ecosystems and landscapes. The GCBA is breaking the law by moving forward without consultation on the RECUCN.”
