Fernández dismissed a possible victory for Milei: “I don’t think Argentina will go crazy”

In the face of the upcoming elections, President Alberto Fernández dismissed the possibility that Javier Mieli could achieve a victory, since he does not believe that “Argentina will go crazy.” During an interview with the German channel Deutsche Welle (DW), within the framework of his visit to Belgium to participate in the III Summit between the European Union (EU) and CELAC, the head of state said: “I do not think that Argentina will go crazy, that would not happen.” However, he later clarified: “We are in a democracy anyway. What we preserve most is institutions, the rule of law and democracy. We are sure that we have an extraordinary candidate who is Sergio Massa, the economy minister.” Under this framework, he acknowledged that it is “true” that the ruling party candidate performs his duties in the Economy Ministry with 115% inflation, but argued: “We received a country with 54 points of inflation. In the first year we lowered it to 35 and the war brought us back to 54.” Finally, he said: “Now we are in the consequences of the war that in an economy with 54 points of inflation puts much more pressure. Now, I am sure that Sergio Massa is an extraordinary candidate and will be an extraordinary president.”
