Attack in Pakistan: 13 killed by the explosion of a bus

Thirteen workers who were on their way to the construction of a military post in northern Pakistan lost their lives after the explosion of a device inside the bus in which they were mobilizing. With the aim of attacking a military convoy that was circulating in front of the bus with the workers, the bomb exploded in the territory of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The blast did not reach Pakistani militias, but it left a clear message to government authorities. Regarding the attack, a senior commander in the North Waziristan region clarified that the episode occurred on Saturday afternoon and said that “the workers were working on the construction of a post for the Army.” The border with Afghanistan includes an area in danger of war due to the constant attacks that took place in recent years, with greater emphasis since the return of the Taliban to power in the neighboring country. This fact hints at a weakening of Pakistan’s government, which failed once again to bolster security in the area besieged by insurgent groups. A little less than a month ago, an attack on a meeting of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam religious party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed 40 people and injured more than 100. In the first half of 2023 alone, Pakistan suffered 271 attacks, in which 389 people were killed and 656 others injured.
