Former President Mauricio Macri spoke out against Argentina’s entry into the BRICS, and also supported the position of the candidate of Together for Change, Patricia Bullrich, in the face of the general elections. In his X/Twitter account, Macri published: “The President commits us in one of his moments of greatest weakness to be part of the BRICS while Russia invades Ukraine and to enter with nothing less than Iran,” in reference to the entry of our country to the BRICS, the economic, political and social association formed by the countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.Then, he expressed his support for Bullrich’s candidacy in the October general elections: “But there is less and less time for Argentina to regain prominence in the international scenario that we began to build in 2015.” In that sense, Bullrich had also spoken out against joining the BRICS: “I want to make one thing very clear: we have stated our position against joining BRICS,” said the candidate of Together for Change at the beginning of her speech at the Alvear Hotel before businessmen and executives of the United States, in a forum organized by the Council of the Americas. The BRICS group of countries, whose leaders are meeting at a summit in Johannesburg and announced that Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were also invited to join the mechanism.
