Rent Law: the ruling party managed to impose itself and the Senate will vote between two projects

This Wednesday, the ruling party of the Senate advanced with the signing of the majority opinion of the rent bill that modifies what was approved weeks ago by the opposition in the Chamber of Deputies. On the one hand, in the debate in committee, the block of Together for Change subscribed to another opinion that proposes to sanction the law as it came from Deputy. On the other hand, the Union for the Fatherland bloc, which had a majority in the commissions and would have the support of allies in the precinct, promotes a project that maintains a three-year contract and establishes update rates of increases different from those proposed by the average sanction of Deputies. Upon leaving the plenary session of the General Legislation and Budget and Finance Committees, the head of the ruling bloc, Jose Mayans, told a group of journalists that the intention is to vote on the issue in the chamber next week. The bill was debated in committee over two weeks, during which lawmakers received in extensive hearings representatives of the houses of landlords, as well as tenants. The opposition bench should win the vote in the precinct if it intends that the new Rent Law be sanctioned definitively. If, on the other hand, the initiative of the ruling party triumphs, the project will return in second review to Deputies. In the lower house, then, the legislators must choose to insist on the original sanction or accept the changes introduced in the Senate.
