The benefits of using Artificial Intelligence in the area of Human Resources

The accelerated use of Artificial Intelligence is permeating all areas of work, including Human Resources. As companies increasingly rely on remote teams and digital tools, HR professionals must adapt their workflows to manage employees effectively “At IBM in the Human Resources area several years ago we started with an internal transformation in our working model, being a zero internal client to be able to apply that technology we have and sell to our clients”, says Marta Kenny, Human Resources Manager of IBM Argentina. In that sense, Kenny says that they were pioneers in starting to use this technology applied to the HR area, and one of the first innovations was the use of the chatbot, so that employees can have more repetitive information available and constant consultation. “What technology allows us today, is that we seek that the experience of our employee, as well as in personal life we have self-service experiences, that same type of experience with Human Resources issues, through the chatbot, the employee can consult about vacation days, doubts about the salary receipt, or some particular policy “, says the Manager.

“Artificial Intelligence allows us to start this path of seeking self-management experiences,” says Marta Kenny. In addition, regarding IBM’s experience in the use of AI, Kenny says that today they are using the chatbot not only to respond, but “there are human resources processes that are already done automatically through that chat, I ask it, I give it a command, for example, transfer an employee from one management to another, I’m giving him the information he asks for and technology is doing it.” The benefits of using this type of technology applied to the area is that the tasks are performed more “quickly, and it is more effective because it avoids errors, at the same time, it does not depend on the availability or not of a person to do it.” AI frees us up time and with that time gained we do other types of activities, more strategic or solve complex situations where we need the person. This is here to stay and technology must be embraced, the whole team is training and learning, “confesses Kenny. IBM Summit ArgentinaThe Human Resources Manager told two other experiences where Artificial Intelligence is used to search for talent and also employee retention. Kenny argues that using AI to search for talent makes “filtering much faster, allows us a quick sweep of a large number of CVs”, and then continues: “Technology is asked for the parameters of the position that is being required and helps a lot in the speed and volume of resumes it selects”. He also warns: “The decision is always made by a person, we work so that there is no bias; Care must be taken that the technology being used is free of bias so that the selection does not have a tendency.” In terms of employee retention, IBM is using an algorithm that allows each employee to generate an index of propensity to leave the company. That is, “the algorithm measures the employee’s position, skills, how those skills are in the market, whether they are sought, etc. That gives us if the employee has a propensity to leave low, medium or high.” So, technology helps, that is made available to the leader, and allows us to make investment decisions, to retain or who has a propensity to leave and has good talent, “says Kenny.IBM Summit 2023IBM held its annual event ‘IBM Summit 2023’ in Buenos Aires, with the presence of more than a thousand people. Attendees learned first-hand about recent advances in Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, data, analytics, sustainability, among others. Roberto Alexander, General Manager of IBM Argentina, announced the three
Technological trends in the country.1. Generative AI will become more and more part of our lives: In Argentina, Generative AI will accompany people in their digital experiences. Hyper-personalization is key, and it’s not just about personalized interactions but intuitive and delivering what users want, even before they ask for it.2. Cyberattacks grow exponentially, while cybercriminals
They are sophisticated: With AI, cybercriminals are even creating deepfakes, which are images, videos and audio generated by AI that can create realistic imitations of other people, which makes it possible to create realistic imitations of other people.Attackers must gain trust and deceive their targets.3. Growth in check due to the shortage of talent in technology: The emergence of technologies such as Generative AI is also bringing new job opportunities. 46% of CEOs surveyed in the U.S. by IBM have hired additional workers due to generative AI, with 26% of them stating they have plans for more hires ahead. It is key that companies continue to innovate to create value for their talent.
