Mexico ranks second-to-last in Latin America in terms of English proficiency, according to Education First

Mexico. – In the EF English Proficiency Index 2023 (EF EPI), which measures language skills in the adult population, the country ranked second-to-last among the 20 Latin American nations evaluated.
With an average score of 451, Mexico ranked 89th out of 113 nations in the world, with a total of 2.2 million non-native inhabitants.

This ranking offers English language study programs, and is based on the EF Standard English Test, used “around the world by schools, companies and governments to conduct large-scale testing,” according to a statement on the presentation of the index.
No state achieved a high level of English, with only nine performing average in English skills.

Jalisco leads the list with 538 points. Then there are Nuevo León, with 531; Querétaro and Michoacán, tied with 519 points each; Morelos, with 518; Colima, with 516; Sonora, with 508, and Sinaloa and Guanajuato, with 506 and 505 points, respectively.
It should be noted that Morelia obtained a score of 522, which is higher than some border cities or cities with higher foreign tourism.
