“Naked Survival” celebrates a decade on the air with a new format

The renowned reality show ‘Naked Survival’, on the Discovery Channel, celebrates 10 years since its first broadcast and, during this decade, it has become a benchmark for those who are fascinated with learning survival techniques, to approach through the screen that ruthless reality that nature can become if it gets lost along the way. Likewise, the channel offers 5 survival tips for those who wish to be part of this challenge, while they propose a new format celebrating the launch of their new season ‘NAKED SURVIVAL: THE LAST ONE STANDING’. Survival Tips1. Prepare Yourself Physically and Mentally for ‘NAKED SURVIVAL’, as it will require great endurance in both aspects. Exposure to the elements and the need to seek out food and water will require strength and optimal health. Take care of your diet in the days leading up to it and get plenty of exercise to ensure your body has enough energy to face what’s coming. Mental preparation is also crucial, as you will face psychological challenges such as stress management, adapting to loneliness, and making decisions under pressure.
2. Take a closer look at your surroundings. Understanding your location is essential, because it will allow you to plan properly, adapt your behavior, and keep a constant eye on what the ecosystem can offer, both in terms of resources and potential hazards. Before you go into the woods and take on the challenge, it’s important to keep in mind that some plants and animals can be poisonous. Be sure to look for edible plants such as a dandelion or clover, even, if you are an expert hunter (only in extreme cases), look for small animals or insects that serve as protein and do not waste energy to continue facing the challenge. Just remember to be careful and make sure they are safe to eat and when in doubt, follow the principle of “if you’re not sure, don’t eat it”.
3. Build and find a solid shelter to shelter you from inclement weather and wild animals, as well as providing you with a place to rest. You can accumulate large, dry leaves, soft sticks, and even flowers to build a den that, preferably, is elevated above the ground to get a better view of hazards that may approach. Remember to be cautious and not destroy the home of an animal that has already won your space.
4. Locate Water It should be one of your main focuses. It is important to gain knowledge on how to obtain sources of hydration in extreme situations, situations where boiling water is not an option. For example, if you are in the woods, in the middle of nowhere, and need hydration, one option is to look for freshwater sources in caves and streams, which are the best options. Springs are also a valuable source of groundwater, while lakes and ponds are excellent sources of surface water so you don’t fall into despair if you become thirsty at some point in the adventure.
5. Learn how to make fire to keep you warm and cook food. Find two hard stones and rub them against each other, you will have to exert force in order to achieve sparks that will make fire. This process not only involves the precise execution of the technique, but also getting leaves dry enough on which you can build your campfire. When you start to see smoke on dry leaves and branches, blow hard to stoke the spark.
To commemorate a decade of success, Discovery will offer special ‘Naked Survival’ programming throughout the month of November, including the premiere of ‘Naked Survival: The Last One Standing’ and marathons featuring the show’s most outstanding episodes.
