Industrial activity fell 4.9% in November and construction fell 2.1%

Industrial activity fell 4.9% in November compared to the same month last year, while construction fell 2.1% in the same period, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC). The cumulative January-November 2023 shows a decrease of 0.8% compared to the same period in 2022. In addition, in November 2023, the seasonally adjusted series index shows a negative variation of 0.6% compared to the previous month and the trend-cycle series index registers a negative variation of 0.3% compared to the previous month. Item by itemIn November 2023, twelve of the sixteen divisions of the manufacturing industry showed year-on-year declines. In terms of their incidence at the general level, there were falls in “Food and beverages”, 6.7%; “Chemicals”, 5.9 per cent; “Other equipment, apparatus and instruments”, 16.9 per cent; “Basic metal industries”, 8.3%; “Machinery and equipment”, 7.1%; “Metal products”, 5.8%. Also: “Non-metallic mineral products”, 3.9%; “Furniture and mattresses, and other manufacturing industries”, 6.4%; “Motor vehicles, bodies, trailers and auto parts”, 1.0%; “Wood, paper, publishing and printing”, 0.3%; “Clothing, leather and footwear”, 0.5%; and “Tobacco products”, 5.5%. On the other hand, the divisions of “Textile Products” showed increases, 6.2%; “Petroleum Refining, Coke and Nuclear Fuel”, 2.1%; “Other transport equipment”, 10.4%; and “Rubber and plastic products”, 0.1%.
