Yellow alerts issued in several provinces due to strong storms and zonda wind

The National Meteorological Service issued yellow alerts for storms in Mendoza, San Luis, Buenos Aires, Córdoba and La Pampa and also for zonda wind for Mendoza and winds for Neuquén, Chubut, Río Negro, northwest of Santa Cruz and the south coast of Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego. Strong electrical activity, occasional hail and abundant precipitation in short periods. An accumulated rainfall of between 20 and 60 millimeters is estimated, and may be exceeded in a timely manner. Wind-affected provinces will see speeds between 50 and 75 kilometers per hour, with gusts that can reach 100 km/h. The strongest intensities will be recorded over the south and west of Santa Cruz and the southern coastal area of that province, Güer Aike.In Mendoza, the alert is for zonda wind, with speeds between 30 and 50 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 70 km/h, which may be exceeded locally. The yellow alert level implies “possible meteorological phenomena with the capacity for damage and risk of momentary interruption of daily activities”. That is why the population is recommended not to take out the garbage, avoid outdoor activities, do not take shelter near trees and electricity poles, do not stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools, and pay attention to the possible fall of hail.
