The CGT said it would not pay the government’s fines

Days after the intimation sent by the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, to the unions that mobilized in front of the courts to cover the expenses of the operations, the union secretary of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), Mario Manrique, assured that they will not pay the fines. In statements to Radio 10, Manrique responded to questions regarding the letter sent by the Minister of Security last week. “We’re not going to pay and let them do what they have to do. I don’t say this as a defiant way, but because it is a totally irreverent act on the part of the President and the Minister to take everything in front of them and silence the voices that are in dissent with their thinking,” he said. In relation to the current situation of the opposition, the union secretary said that “the only force that, if we organize, can stand up to is trade unionism and Peronism.” He also warned that “when the people start to get hungry, there are no more words and no more politics; let’s hope the President reflects.” Finally, Manrique said about the economic emergency that “we are going to discuss salaries every month, but there is no point in updating them if you do not control prices.”
