Covid cases on the rise in Argentina

Ricardo Teijeiro, an infectious disease specialist at the Pirovano Hospital and a member of the Argentine Society of Infectious Diseases (SADI), explained: “There is an increase in cases. For now, we see the usual variants circulating, but with a significant and quite important increase for this time of year of cases that are not severe.” Within this framework, in dialogue with Infobae, added: “It is expected that, come autumn and winter, we will have greater circulation and that the variants that are in the northern hemisphere will also begin to circulate.” For her part, infectious disease specialist Elena Obieta, head of the communicable and emerging diseases service of the Municipality of San Isidro and member of the Argentine Society of Infectious Diseases (SADI), indicated that there is “a sustained increase in cases, just like in other years, after the end-of-year meetings, crowds and beach parties, to give a few examples.” In this way, he continued: “We began to have an increase and you see it in the office, the guards and in a lot of people who are going through a picture that they estimate is a cold, allergy and a little cough, that in the worst case they self-medicate, and it turned out that it was COVID.” Finally, the expert concluded: “This situation can put some strain on the health system, especially in outpatient consultations, since we can also have overlap with a greater number of dengue cases. These two pathologies can put a bit of a strain on the system.”
