Oscars 2024: “Oppenheimer,” “Snow Society,” “Poor Creatures” and the full list of nominees

The nominations came in. On the way to the 96th edition of the Oscars to be held on March 10 at the usual Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood announced the list of candidates, including “Oppenheimer” (which returned to Argentine theaters), “Poor Creatures” and where the Hispanic production “The Snow Society” has great chances to chase the statuette for Best Film Internacional.La biopic about the physicist who developed the Manhattan Project and the atomic bomb that exploded in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Cillian Murphy, is the most shortlisted with 13 nominations; followed by “Poor Things”, the satire by Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos with Emma Stone (a great candidate for Best Actress) that earned 11 nominations. While “The Killers of the Moon,” the adaptation by Martin Scorsese, who reunited Leonardo DiCaprio with Robert De Niro in one film, stands out with 10 nominations. As for “Barbie”, which signified the cinematic phenomenon in terms of box office in 2023, its popularity was not taken as a parameter and left out the candidacy of Greta Gerwig (the same parameter of exclusion of “Little Women”), the same with producer and star Margot Robbie. On the other hand, Ryan Gosling was shortlisted (and yes, “I’m Just Ken” is also up for Best Original Song) for playing Ken (in a shortlist that competes with Robert Downey Jr.) and America Ferrera, the maker of the best monologue of the film (inspired by King Kong Theoryby Virgine Despentes, and written by Gerwig with Noah Baumbach). As for the shortlist for Best Animated Feature, Studio Ghibli’s new feature film, “The Boy and the Heron” got its nomination, along with Pixar’s “Elements,” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” with the surprise of considering “Nimona” (the Netflix film, which was not shortlisted in some previous awards such as the Golden Globes) and “Robot Dreams.” Here’s the full list:Best Picture* “Oppenheimer”
