The IMF will meet to analyze the agreement reached with the government of Javier Milei

The Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will hold a meeting next Wednesday, January 31, to discuss the agreement reached by the technicians of the multilateral credit organization with the Ministry of Economy, on January 10, within the framework of the seventh review of the Extended Facilities Program. With the Board’s approval, the government could obtain a disbursement of $4.7 billion. It should be noted that the country must face in the last days of the month the payment of USD 1,945 million in maturities, at a time when the Central Bank’s reserves, according to private reports, are in the negative. After the agreement reached in principle with the Argentine government, the agency issued a statement in which it highlighted: “The new administration is already implementing an ambitious stabilization plan, based on strong initial fiscal consolidation, along with measures to rebuild reserves, correct relative price imbalances, strengthen the Central Bank’s balance sheet and create a market economy based on clear and predictable rules. It also provides for increased social assistance to protect the most vulnerable.” In which he also clarified that the proposed disbursement “is intended to support the determined economic efforts of the new authorities to restore macroeconomic stability and support Argentina in meeting its balance of payments needs.”
