Bullrich defended the operation in front of Congress: “It was a scuffle with the demonstrators”

After the multiple criticisms that the government received for the repression operation that took place during the demonstrations in front of Congress, Patricia Bullrich, Minister of National Security, defended the police action and maintained that “it was a scuffle with the demonstrators” because they “threw everything at the police.” The president wholeheartedly supports what we’re doing on security. I know that what I’m doing, I’m doing well, and if at any time some deputies tried to stop the session, and then classify it as repression for what happened, it’s very far from knowing what repression means,” defended the minister on Sunday morning. Speaking to FM Milenium, Bullrich remarked: “It was a scuffle with the demonstrators, after they threw everything at the police.” He also highlighted “the level of professionalism” of the forces in Argentina, and maintained that “they are very clear about what the objective is and what they have to do; That is why we protect them by putting a mace of forces that protect each other.” The goal is also for the heads of these organizations to set some limits. The Bregmans, all those who have come out to agitate us, like the Belliboni. Belliboni, who throws himself on the floor every now and then and says he was touched. If you get in the middle of the forces, who are with their protections, it can happen that they hit you in the chin or you may have hit yourself two blocks before and you have gone to the square on purpose,” he added. On the other hand, the minister referred to the cost of the operation and blamed the organizations that called for the mobilization. “Those are the organizations that are going to have to pay the expenses. Those who have generated or convened, it is very clear who the leaders of those organizations are. Now they are going to have to pay and all the detainees leave with an open case for injuries and disturbances, and in this case also for destruction,” he said. In that sense, he questioned the objective of the organizations that called for the demonstration. “The manoeuvre was to adjourn the session, at one point they were all calm and suddenly they wanted to cross the limit. The maneuvers were fully coordinated with those in Congress. Sittings have been adjourned because of the violence. But I never felt that the omnibus law was put at risk with the security operation,” Bullrich added.
