Power outages, sweltering heat and storm watch across the country

The situation regarding high temperatures seems to be getting even worse, as with temperatures of up to 40°C, various health problems can be generated. Heavy thunderstorms are also expected for Sunday night and early Monday morning. The Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA) is facing a complicated situation after the fire at Edesur’s Caballito substation, which left more than 20,000 residents without power for more than 24 hours. The National Meteorological Service issued yellow warnings for storms in several areas of the country, including the center, south and west of the province of Buenos Aires. “Accumulated precipitation values are estimated to be between 30 and 60 mm. The area will be affected by winds from the south with speeds between 50 and 60 km/h, and gusts that can exceed 70 km/h,” the entity said. In addition, storms are warned in La Pampa and San Luis, central and southeastern Córdoba, southern La Rioja and central and eastern Mendoza. At the same time, the south of Chubut and the central, eastern and northern sectors of Santa Cruz were also warned, which would imply “possible meteorological phenomena with the capacity for damage and risk of momentary interruption of daily activities.” Meanwhile, there is a red alert for sweltering heat in central and southern Misiones, most of Corrientes, eastern Chaco and Formosa, where extremely high temperatures are expected. That’s why it’s recommended to take precautions and keep an eye out for updates from weather and emergency agencies.
