Barrios de Pie protested in front of the Ministry of Economy to demand food assistance for soup kitchens

The group Somos Barrios de Pie (We Are Neighborhoods of Standing) gathered this Monday in front of the Ministry of Economy and at the entrance of the Country Newman, a gated community where the head of the Treasury Palace, Luis “Toto” Caputo, resides, to demand food assistance for the soup kitchens. Daniel Menéndez, national leader of the space, said that the government’s decision to suspend the shipment of dry food to soup kitchens has not been compensated to date. No food has arrived since November. They are just putting together the audits of the canteens that were presented to move forward in signing an agreement and transferring the funds. That minimum is going to be by the end of March,” he explained. Barrios de Pie protested to demand food assistance for soup kitchens. “Today we held the 8th Round of the Empty Pots, this time at the doors of the Ministry of Economy demanding answers to the food cuts suffered by the canteens,” the organization said through its social networks.
After the protest in front of the Ministry, Norma Morales, assistant secretary of UTEP and member of the organization, said: “The ineffectiveness of Minister Pettovello and the cynicism of Caputo in the face of the lack of delivery of food to the community kitchens is incredible. This situation is unsustainable where many of the spaces are closing and leaving thousands of kids without a daily meal.”
