The UBA expressed “extreme concern about the budgetary situation”

The Academic Council of the National University of Buenos Aires (UBA) expressed its “extreme concern regarding the budgetary situation” of the university and entrusted its rector, Ricardo Gelpi, to make arrangements with the Ministry of Human Capital to “guarantee the continuity of its functions in teaching, research, health and extension.” Through a statement, the Academic Council of the house of higher studies considered public university education as “a pride of society based on the pillars of free education, autonomy, secularism and social inclusion, with the highest academic quality, promotion of research and commitment to society” where in turn, It requires adequate funding to carry out its activities. According to the inflationary crisis that Argentina is going through, the UBA considered it “necessary to express the state of extreme concern of the university community” and request “before the corresponding government areas in order to guarantee the continuity of its functions in teaching, research, health and extension”, as well as “the activities within the scope of its Faculties, Pre-university colleges, hospitals and all their university facilities”. The decision of the Academic Council to appoint the rector of the UBA focuses on carrying out the pertinent procedures before the Ministry of Human Capital to activate “the teaching and non-teaching parity, update the budget for operating expenses and for the allocation and updating of the items linked to the health function, vital for the functioning of the Assistance Institutes”. Finally, they reported that they will request the “Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers to allocate the necessary budget for science and technology activities, in order to sustain a system that is an essential pillar of the maintenance of quality research and teaching in our public universities.”
