Pope Francis canceled his schedule this Saturday due to a “mild flu”

Through an official statement, the Vatican reported that Pope Francis canceled his agenda this Saturday due to a “mild flu state”, which prevented him from receiving the deacons of the diocese of Rome, although the prayer of the Angelus this Sunday continues to be confirmed. Due to a mild case of influenza, as a precautionary measure, the Pope has cancelled the audiences scheduled for today,” the Holy See reported, and after announcing that Sunday’s prayer from the window is still standing, it assured that there will be no further information on the matter. The Supreme Pontiff was engaged from last Sunday to Friday, February 23, with prayers for Lent, the stage of preparation for the reception of Easter, and would resume his agenda this Saturday, but the appearance of the flu changed the plans. Before turning 87 last December, the pope had to cancel his trip to Dubai for his participation in COP28, the annual climate summit organized by the United Nations (UN), because of infectious bronchitis that caused him breathing difficulties. On that occasion, the Supreme Pontiff had to celebrate the reading of the Angelus from inside the papal palace, although days later he showed himself recovered and even went to the Plaza de España on December 8 for the homage to the Virgin of the Immaculate.Earlier in 2023, the Pope had suffered from the same illness, which then forced him to remain hospitalized for three days, receiving intravenous antibiotics.
