Morelia, Michoacán. – To give attention to the action of Unconstitutionality 168/2020 and its cumulative 177/2020, the State Congress and the Electoral Institute of Michoacán sign a collaboration agreement to carry out the consultation processes, as announced through a statement. Deputy Ivonne Pantoja, president of the Board of Directors of the State Congress, on behalf of the 75th Legislature, signed the agreement with the president of the IEM, Ignacio Hurtado Gómez, guaranteeing the exchange of necessary information, through a mechanism of inter-institutional collaboration, accompaniment, planning and exchange of experience. In this regard, the deputy president stressed that the processes of citizen consultations ordered by the court already have the attention of the board of directors to comply with the norm and citizen participation. He also reported that, in accordance with the law, three educational institutions have already been invited for these processes, such as: the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH), the Universidad de la Ciénega and the Colegio de Michoacán (COLMICH). In addition to this, “in Congress we already have an advisor specialized in the field specialized in Human Rights, a member of the National System of Investigators, who has the experience, which reinforces the consultation processes,” he said. It should be noted that this agreement establishes that the IEM will act as a transmitting body based on the experience it has, on aspects related to citizen consultations; For its part, the Congress will make the request for the exchange of information in the modality it deems most appropriate, whether it is guidance or training. This agreement will serve for Congress to work together with the Electoral Institute in this process of unconstitutionality actions and future actions that may be presented, it is important to mention that the IEM already has the experience of 34 consultation processes with indigenous communities in Michoacán.
