Mendoza: Pregnant Woman Who Had Reported Gender-Based Violence Killed Her Partner

A pregnant woman stabbed and killed her husband in the chest in the town of Godoy Cruz, in Mendoza. The woman, who was 40 weeks pregnant, said she defended herself from an assault. She had already denounced him for gender-based violence. The incident occurred this Friday around 1:20 a.m., when the couple got into an argument inside their home. The 911 call alerted to a person stabbed on the sidewalk. Aboard a pickup truck, neighbors took Exequiel Alexander Ponce to the Hospital del Carmen, where he died. He showed signs of hanging and a stab wound to the chest. The woman, whose identity was not revealed, used a Tramontina-type kitchen knife to wound him in the chest. In his statement to the police, he said he defended himself from an assault. In addition, she had already made complaints of gender-based violence in 2019 and 2022, according to Diario Uno.La couple lived together in a house in the Sarmiento neighborhood of Godoy Cruz and had three children, ages 6, 8 and 13. All of them were in the house when the assault began. According to the woman’s account, her husband beat her in the room and covered her mouth and nose to choke her. She escaped and made it to the kitchen, where she pulled out the knife she plunged into her partner’s chest. The woman was taken to the 34th Police Station in the first instance and then was hospitalized at the Hospital del Carmen.She worked on the personal case of the Mendoza Police of Homicides, Scientific and Departmental Investigative Unit. Fiscal Office No. 4 intervenes.
