The “All and All” lawyers and lawyers movement issued a statement rejecting the criticism of President Sebastián Piñera and backed by the Minister vocera de gobierno, Cecilia Pérez, regarding the judges who “fail to comply with the law” and give a “cloak of impunity to criminals.”
“Because of the words given by the President of the Republic, as a movement of lawyers “All and All” we strongly reject the statements made by the President of the Republic, the Minister-Secretary-General of government and the Minister the Interior, unfoundedly accusing the work of the judiciary for the crime rate in our society,” the statement states.

Because of the words given by the President of the Republic, as a movement of lawyers “All and All” we strongly reject the statements made by the President of the Republic, the Minister-Secretary-General of government and the Minister unfoundedly accusing the work of the judiciary for the crime rate in our society:
1.- Judicial independence is a fundamental guarantee for the rule of law, and it is seriously threatened when the President of the Republic, without any basis, attempts to transfer to the judges the responsibility that comes with it in public security and the prevention of crime.
2.- These statements are framed in a growing populist trend, as they tend to confuse citizens about the functioning of the judicial system, without providing real solutions, clouding public debate and ultimately undermining our Democracy.
3.- The President of the Republic must ensure the ministerial conduct of judges and other employees of the Judiciary, for which it may require that misconduct that has been configured be declared. That is to say, the legal system establishes the appropriate channel for that authority to proceed if appropriate.
4.- Lawyers and lawyers have a social role to play: to collaborate with the realization of justice, especially for the disadvantaged, to contribute to the construction of a culture of human rights, and to democratize our knowledge in a simple and understandable way for any citizen or citizen. That is why we call for our colleagues to join in unmasking the false and dangerous speeches of which the country’s highest authority has decided to take part.
