On the afternoon last Friday, Aníbal Fernández, former Chief of Cabinet of Ministers of the government of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, posted on his Twitter account a video showing the President of the Nation, Mauricio Macri, greeting the maroons with the chancellor , Jorge Faurie, during the last Mercosur Summit with the leaders of the member countries, in the city of Santa Fe.In the video – with about 37 thousand reproductions, 1,100 retweets and 2,700 “Likes” – it is heard that Macri is addressing one of the grenaders with the phrase “one day I would like to be as elegant as you” and, according to the subtitles of the piece published by Fernandez, the grenadero would have replied: “It is not everyone’s pleasure. It’s the PATRIA uniform!!! Mr. President…” (sic). However, Reverso was able to verify that these last subtitles are fake, and that the granadero did not say that. But what did the grenade say to the President?
On July 17, the Regiment of Horse-drawn “General San Martín” posted on their Twitter account the video of the dialogue between the President and the first lieutenant of the General Horse Granaderos Regiment, Christian Portaluppi, with more than 33,700 1,300 retweets and 4,100 likes, as of August 3last.
As Reverso could see, although Macri did say what was stated in the video posted by Fernandez, the grenadero actually replied: “It will be a pleasure to see you in the uniform of the Fatherland, Mr. President.” In the same vein, the Regiment posted in that tweet: “When you are Presidential Escort and you are proud to wear the uniform created by the Father of the Fatherland”, accompanied by the emojis of a horse and the Argentine flag and the hashtags #OrgulloRGC #EsteEsTuEjército.Finally, the President replied in a humorous tone: “Let us not rule it out, let us not rule it out.” The next day, Todo Noticias (TN) posted the same video on its Facebook page and stated that it was “a fun and curious exchange” within the framework of the Mercosur summit, while it was expected to receive the bloc’s presidents.” Outside of protocol, the brief dialogue generated laughter among those present. Asked by Reverso, Aníbal Fernández confirmed that he posted the video on Twitter and said he had downloaded it from a note from the Urgent site24. “I saw him and i uploaded him. They are usually serious in their publications,” said the former chief of staff and current pre-candidate for councillor of Pinamar’s Bonaerense party, in dialogue with this medium.

The note of Urgente24, entitled “The response of the granadero that dislocated Macri”, states that “the President wanted to become sympathetic to a granadero who was serving, but his response made him uncomfortable and only laughed”. The caption of a screenshot of the video uploaded by the portal also says that the granadero “left Macri in ‘offside’ with an unexpected answer” and the note plays the wrong subtitles. The video that Urgente24 uses in his note was uploaded to YouTube on the same Friday, August 2nd by a user, with the title “Granadero responds to Macri”, and the next day he had already 10,701 views.
