President Sebastián Piñera convened a Cabinet Council for wednesday, following the third modification of his ministers on Monday, and amid the social protests he has led to more than 3,500 detainees and hundreds of destructions in fires in several cities in the country.7
The appointment was set at 14:00 on 30 October, to outline strategies for future actions to be undertaken in the midst of a social conflict that has not decreased since they started evasions of public transport, in rejection of the increase of the passage.
As detailed by the Undersecretary of the Interior, Rodrigo Ubilla, President Piñera accepted the resignations of the holders of Interior, Finance, Segpres, Segegob, Economy, Labor, National Goods and Sports.
In this way, Andrés Chadwick, Felipe Larraín, Juan Andrés Fontaine, Nicolás Monckeberg and Pauline Kantor left the team of ministers.
Meanwhile, Gonzalo Blumel assumed interior’s portfolio as the new chief of staff; Cecilia Pérez moved to Deportes; Philip Ward passed to the Segpres; and the mayor of the Metropolitan Region, Karla Rubilar, after discarding to compete in the 2020 gubernatorial elections, replaced Cecilia Pérez as the new spokeswoman for Government.
Alongside this meeting, the UN mission sent to ensure compliance with human rights will come to Chilean soil on Wednesday, considering that the INDH counted 5 people killed by state agents.
