translated from Spanish: AMLO is asked not to close women’s care institute

A group of women stayed outside a hotel where President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is staying in Tlapa de Comonfort, Guerrero, to ask him not to close the Ciudad de las Mujeres Center.
According to the newspaper Reform, the women stayed on the sidewalk of the Hotel Villa Celeste de Tlapa, near where the representative will show up at a rally this Sunday at noon.
“They told us that here he was, we arrived and we arrived at eight at night: we are looking for him because we know that he is a great man, because we know that he has not received our request, because we believe in all the change he is making for the country and that he said that the projects that did work would leave them,” eréndira González said.

The Ciudad de las Mujeres Center in Tlapa, Guerrero, was opened in 2015 and is under the administration of the Ministry of Agricultural, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) and provides care in sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence, education and economic autonomy.
According to Sedatu’s information, the center seeks to “address the specific needs of women and strategic problems that impede the progress towards equality” of women living in the 19 municipalities that make up the Mountain region in Guerrero.
Eréndira Gonzalez told Reform the City center of Las Mujeres works, “proof of this is that we are working all this year without a budget, to be able to carry out our actions with the indigenous women around the Mountain”.

In addition, she requested a diagnosis of the institute and “especially that all the women we attend – if they close it – to tell them where their school legal processes and many other health legal processes will be taken”.
In this regard, on 18 November, Sedatu reported in a statement that the 43 women serving at the centre had completed the payment process, noting that “this is the only erogation to be carried out by the secretariat and with it, the payment of the services performed from the first of December 2018, as of October 30, 2019, is terminated”.
