Mexico.- The House of Deputies’ Plenary has approved reforms that favor current deputies and senators in their re-election, so they could remain in office until 2030.
This initiative was carried out at 12:35 a.m. on March 18, 2020, where formalities were submitted, reforms were passed to the general laws of Electoral Institutions and Procedures and Political Parties.
It should be noted that the parliamentary groups of the PAN, PRI and PRD did not attend the session on Wednesday; MC did attend and voted against.
The opinion states that deputies and senators who wish to re-elect theself may do so in the localities or constituencies from which they were elected, either by the multi-member route or by a relative majority.
Lawmakers will be allowed to remain in office and campaign at the same time.
The text indicates that the obligations inherent in your commission as legislators must be fulfilled and you must refrain from engaging in anticipated campaign and pre-campaign acts, in accordance with the provisions of this Law.
It also indicates that they should refrain from engaging in acts of political proselytism during the time they are required to attend the session of the corresponding Chamber, in accordance with articles 63 and 64 of the Constitution.
“They cannot have public resources in their campaign inges or in any act of political proselytism, whether human, material or economic.”
