Mexico.- In an interview with journalist Richard Ensor for the English newspaper The Economist, the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, admitted that they sold large quantities of masks to China themselves that now, by advancing propagation, repurchase at a higher price.
López-Gatell commented that this decision was made because at that time the scenario was different and stopping sales of such material would have involved declaring a state of alert in Mexico whose social, political and economic consequences would have been negative.
The sub-secretary indicated that Mexico has the great advantage of having manufacturing bases, and indicated that this advantage will be used primarily to meet the needs of the domestic market and subsequently, the marketing of the equipment would be thought. He commented that dialogues with the industrial sector are still being maintained to carry out these processes.
Among other topics, López-Gatell also recognized the biases in statistics to account for confirmed cases of coronavirus in Mexico, because the information system “has great virtues, but also great limitations”.
