translated from Spanish: Account for more than 150,000 cases of coronavirus in Latin America and the Caribbean

Latin America and the Caribbean surpassed on Saturday (25,04,2020) the 150,000 cases of contagion of the new coronavirus, which has already killed more than 7,400 people in the region, according to official data.
The new coronavirus had claimed the lives of more than 200,736 people worldwide, where some 2,800,000 have become ill with COVID-19 in 193 countries or territories.
In total, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean numbered 150,156 cases on Saturday, of which 7,434 died.
Brazil, with 210 million inhabitants, has the most cases, with 52,995 contagions and 3,670 deaths.
The second country in the region most affected in number of cases is Ecuador. This week the authorities processed thousands of tests that had not been treated due to lack of capacity, so the number of cases doubled.
On Friday, Ecuadorian authorities reported 22,719 contagions and 576 deaths.
These two countries are followed, in number of cases, by Peru with 21,648 contagions and 634 deaths; and Mexico with 12,872 contagions, which is the fourth country with the most cases but the second in death, with 1,221. Chile (12,858, 181) is fifth in contagion.
However, this case figure only reflects a portion of all cases, due to the disparate policies of the different countries to carry out their diagnoses. Some, for example, only do so with those who need hospitalization.
