The Council of Historical Protestant Churches of Chile described as “reproachable” that all evangelicals should be “identified and instrumentalized” with one of the plebiscite’s options, this after the participation of the Evangelical Church in the television strip of Rejection.
“We find it reprehensible that all evangelicals should be identified and instrumentalized with a certain option, whatever these,” they said in a statement.
They reiterated that “there is no “Evangelical Church”, but evangelical churches: a set of various entities with diverse organizational forms and practices, even if they coincide in some basic doctrinal elements typical of all Christian churches.”
In this regard, they emphasized that “no particular organization or church can arrogate the representation of all churches, or of all evangelicals”. In fact, they stated that “even within each church its members represent various options and looks, and that a particular statement generally represents the opinion of the directives, the result of deliberative processes typical of each organization, and not that of each and every member of the church.”
