translated from Spanish: Citizens propose to local MPs to apply mandate revocation in Michoacán

Morelia, Michoacán.- On the morning of this Tuesday, members of the Civil Association Citizens in Evolution presented to the State Congress a draft law initiative to improve mechanisms of citizen participation such as the application of hearings, dialogue tables, the formulation of observatories composed of citizens and activists, as well as the revocation of mandate in Michoacán.
In interview, Manuel Antúnez Oviedo, President of Citizens in Evolution commented that the initiative aims to enable the population to participate actively in the way the State Congress operates in decision-making.
“This initiative summarizes all the approaches we have on the most important figures such as referendum, citizen observatory plebiscite, participatory budget and public audience that are not normated, but also on revocation of mandate,” he explained.
In that regard, he said that it was the right of the population to be able to decide whether or not they want their rulers to remain in office, and that he assured that at least 2,500 people supported this bill and his opinion was expressed in the document he gave to the president of the congressional board, Octavio Ocampo Córdoba.
“We are very tired of political parties not actually representing citizen interests, there are no commitments to social groups to have a better Michoacán, in part that is creating this initiative so that we can commit them to their work or else we will have to throw them away,” he concluded.
