We still have to see several of the big bets that the streaming platform has in store for us for this year, among them “The Mother of the Blues” (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), a new biopic, which on this time will be centered on the artist Ma Rainey.
The character will be played by Oscar winner Viola Davis (“Fences”), who alongside Chadwick Boseman whom we will see as a trumpeter named Levee, and who will compete for the band’s leadership place.
The film is not only one of the great premieres that Netflix has prepared for 2020 and that seeks its place among the Oscar nominations, but will be the last in which we see the actor – who gave life to Black Panther in the Marvel Studios films – who died at 43 after fighting colon cancer.

“The Mother of the Blues” features the direction of playwright George C. Wolfe and the production of Denzel Washington (Oscar winner for “Training Day”), who starred in “Fences” alongside Viola Davis, and whose work earned him (as we tell you) the golden statuette.

To get into the story, Netflix presented the first official trailer in which we can see other figures completing the cast such as Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo, Michael Potts, Taylour Paige, Jonny Coyne, Jeremy Shamos and Dusan Brown. It opens on December 18.
