In Santa Maria Zacatepec, about 119 kilometers from Mexico City, the Sánchez family was surprised on the afternoon of Saturday, May 29, by a loud rumble, which they initially thought was a lightning strike.
However, soon after, the Sanchezes discovered that a few meters from their home, in the middle of the field, the earth had sunk.
The sinking eventually reached the home of the Sanchez family, who have lived in the area since 2014.

Scientists and authorities are trying to determine the origin of the gigantic hole, between hypotheses about a geological fault or water variations of the soil.
“We were seeing detachment through the overflight of drones, it is a phenomenon of nature, surely there will continue to be landslides,” Puebla Interior Secretary Ana Lucia Gil told the press.
Just on June 17, Mexican rescuers released two dogs that had accidentally fallen into the socavón.
The dogs Spay, whose owner lives in the area, and Spike, named after other neighbors, played in the field last Monday and went over the security cordon maintained by police and military to stop the curious, descending about 20 meters without the possibility of returning to the surface by themselves.
Eventually, Spay and Spike were taken out by a rescuer who descended into the socavón with the help of his companions and using ropes, without anyone being injured.
The sinking, which continues to expand daily, attracts onlookers from neighboring states.
