The Ministry of Health (Minsal) today published the 149th Epidemiological Report, which gives an account of the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. According to the report – and as has been trending in recent iterations – active cases continue to decline.
According to the report, there are 5,364 infections in the country, the lowest figure of the year. Likewise, the number experienced a decrease of 966 active cases compared to the previous report.
At the regional level, the Metropolitan Region continues to lead the number of infections, with 2,650. Still, it equates to its lowest figure since late November last year.
The RM is followed by the regions of Valparaíso (508), Biobío (421), Maule (275), Los Lagos (244), O’Higgins (212), La Araucanía (206), Tarapacá (178), Antofagasta (142), Coquimbo (137) and Los Ríos (100).
As for communes, Puente Alto (186) continues to top the list. Below are La Florida (163), Maipú (162), Santiago (130), Peñalolén (116), Puerto Montt (90), Las Condes (89), Iquique (86), San Bernardo (84) and Rancagua (84).
As of August 29, 2021, there have been 1,968,629 cases of COVID-19 (1,638,330 with laboratory confirmation and 330,299 probable, without laboratory confirmation), with a rate of 10,117.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.
Meanwhile, the highest rates of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to confirmed and probable cases, are found in the Tarapacá Region (46.5), Metropolitan (32.6) and Aysén (31.7).
