A day like today, the Marambio Base was founded in Antarctica Argentina

The Vicecomodoro Gustavo Marambio Air and Military Base, or simply Marambio Base, owes its name to Gustavo Argentino Marambio, a pioneer of Argentine aviation in the Antarctic sector. And it was founded on October 29, 1969.

And for 52 years it has been operational with assistant personnel during the 365 days of the year that develop different scientific activities such as the measurement of atmospheric ozone in others and special attention is given to the Protection of the Environment.

Some of the scientific activities at the base are gathered at the LAMBI (Multidisciplinary Antarctic Laboratory at Marambio Base). The temperatures in the place easily reach thirty degrees below zero and the winds at 120 km / h, these strong winds, in turn, are what prevent a large accumulation of snow in the plateau area. The number of people living in the Marambio Base varies according to the time of year, with an average of 70 people in winter, and 170 people in summer, due to the installation of scientific camps on the occasion of the Antarctic Summer Campaign.
