Matamoros records clashes, shootings and blockades; there are 4 dead

In the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, clashes, blockades and burning of vehicles were recorded last night, leaving four people dead and three arrested.
According to the first reports, a group of armed civilians attacked state police and elements of the Army in the downtown area of this city, which led to persecutions and shootings in several areas.

The State Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace in Tamaulipas reported On Saturday that the detainees and three dead are members of the Gulf Cartel.
During the events, a civilian person died collaterally. Two people were injured, who have already been discharged.
In a statement, he said that there are indications that, possibly, one of the dead is Ariel Treviño Peña and / or, Javier Enrique Hernández Gutiérrez and / or Francisco Hernández Martínez, alias “El Tigre”, who according to intelligence data is located as head of hawks, leader of the Scorpions operation of the Gulf Cartel, as well as Chief of Plaza for the Nuevo Progreso area, which is considered a priority objective for the justice of Tamaulipas and the United States.

Although the information will still have to be checked during the day with forensic and other expert evidence.

“El Tigre” is among the most wanted with a reward from the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office and listed within the Security and Prosperity Campaign that the Government of Tamaulipas and seven federal agencies of the United States have.
At several points, shootings were reported at the exit to Reynosa and the violent dispossession of private cars to block avenues.
The first clash between the alleged armed criminals and state police unleashed a chase through several streets of the city that resulted minutes later in that – to prevent the arrival of reinforcements from the security corporations – members of the criminal group threw punches and blocked 15 different points.
Among the points blocked with heavy vehicles and cars were the accesses to roads that connect Matamoros with Nuevo Progreso and Valle Hermoso; in addition, the burning of three vehicles was recorded.
According to the authorities, several of the assailants fled on foot getting lost when entering various public places in the downtown area of the city.
The detainees, the armored vehicle in which they were traveling and the weapons secured were placed at the disposal of the federal ministerial authority for legal actions and the follow-up of the investigations.
There were also clashes on Sixth Street, near the downtown area, in front of a shopping center, as well as in the Plaza Fiesta shopping center, located on Pedro Cárdenas Avenue.
Almost simultaneously, shootings were reported in the Buenavista neighborhood, San Francisco and the Victoria Fractionation.
For the facts, the governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, announced the sending of law enforcement agents to reinforce security in that border town in the north of the state.
