Young man’s two legs amputated after eating decaying Chinese food

A 19-year-old boy who consumed spoiled Chinese food had an infection that led to the amputation of both legs. The case was published in the scientific journal The New England Journal of Medicine, in which it is explained that the young man would have eaten fried rice, chicken and leftovers of the mein, a dish of Chinese food that consists of flour noodles, vegetables, meats and / or seafood, the latter dish apparently was in a state of decomposition. After 20 hours from the intake of these foods, he began to present diffuse abdominal pain and nausea. After these symptoms and due to the severity of them, he was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital.Read more: Cofepris warns of recall of infant formulas due to the presence of bacteriaIn the hospital he was diagnosed with multiple organ failure, he had spots on the skin and a reticular rash that progressed rapidly. At Massachusetts General Hospital he was treated by toxicology doctor Bernard Hsu, who said the young man had multiple episodes of emesis (forced expulsion of stomach contents through the mouth) resulting in bilious or reddish-brown. He also had abdominal pain, chills, and generalized weakness, as well as rapidly worsening myalgias, chest pain, shortness of breath, headache, stiff neck, and blurred vision. After a detailed analysis, the doctors determined that the young man was infected with a bacterium called ‘Neisseria meningitidis’ that generates blood clotting, liver failure, heart rhythm disturbance and temperature increase to more than 40 degrees. Due to the damage generated in the lower extremities by the presence of the bacteria, doctors chose to amputate both legs from the knees. Specialists think that the bacteria can germinate in the decaying food that the young man consumed. Read more: These are the risks of pregnancy in women with obesity VIDEO: SEDENA war tanks arrive in Zacatecas
