Mexico reaches 5 million 489 thousand 127 cases

Mexico added another 15,638 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the cumulative total in almost two years of the pandemic to 5,489,127.
The most recent technical report of the federal Ministry of Health also indicates that the number of deceased people reached 317,683 on this day.
The agency also reported that the number of estimated active cases stands at 58,492. This number refers to those people considered the active engine of the pandemic, given that they had symptoms in the last 14 days and still have the capacity to infect.

Mexico is about to celebrate two years since the first case of COVID-19 was detected in its territory. This occurred on February 28, 2020.
The country is currently going through its fourth wave of infections, mainly driven by the Ómicron variant.
The evidence available so far indicates that this variant is more transmissible than others but causes less serious pictures of the disease.

Authorities maintain that this fourth wave of COVID-19 infections is already on the decline in Mexico.

In the country’s capital, local officials said Friday that while Mexico City is still at a yellow risk traffic light, it is already approaching the green color. They even hoped that next Friday, when the new national map is released, it can already move to the minimum risk category.
Today, 16 states are in yellow and the remaining 16 in green.
