President Piñera says that five Chileans have managed to cross the border between Ukraine and Poland and nine others are very close

President Sebastián Piñera reiterated on Saturday his government’s condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and assured that nine Chileans are very close to crossing the border into Poland, in the midst of the conflict.
During the inauguration of a new terminal at Santiago Airport, the President ratified “the most absolute condemnation of the cruel, violent and unjustified aggression that the Russian Federation has made to an independent country, such as Ukraine, and also express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people in these dark and sad hours they are living.”
In addition, the Head of State reiterated “the permanent concern for the situation and security of our compatriots living in Ukraine”, announcing that, so far, five Chileans have managed to cross the border between Ukraine and Poland and are safe in Polish territory, and were assisted by personnel from the embassy and consulate in Poland.
“There are nine more compatriots who are very close to the border, we are in contact with them, and we hope that at any time and as soon as possible they can also cross that border and reach a safe place,” he said.
The president said that “there are great communication problems, for example, some Chileans are in very isolated areas, with very difficult communication, or very distant, or must cross very unsafe areas to reach the borders. We are making every effort to keep in touch with them and to give them all the help that is possible and necessary,” he concluded.
