Cafiero met with the head of the International Labour Organization

On Tuesday, as part of his visit to the Swiss city of Geneva, Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero held a meeting with the head of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Guy Ryder. During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed “the importance that Argentina attaches to the organization” and highlighted “its historical commitment to the entity and its active participation at all levels of its tripartite organization: government, unions and companies.” In addition, according to official information, the official referred to the recent appointment of the country as a Deputy Member of the Governing Body for the period 2021-2024, one of the main organs of the ILO, and communicated the intentions of the national Government to preside over the next International Labour Conference to be held in Geneva, for the months of May and June. In this context, Cafiero expressed his “desire” that “the organization maintains a socio-labor agenda that responds with the commitment to move towards a sustainable economic recovery based on the promotion of production, employment and the strengthening of tripartite social dialogue.” Argentina will accompany the ILO in a new normal that ensures an alternative of development with social justice,” said the foreign minister. Finally, the head of the San Martín Palace highlighted “the strong commitment of our country to highly sensitive issues, such as the Eradication of Child Labor and Forced Labor in all its forms, being a pioneer in its classification as a crime.”
