Michael Cheika would be the new coach of Los Pumas

Australian Michael Cheika would be the new coach of the Argentine rugby team, Los Pumas, replacing Mario Ledesma, who submitted his resignation last month. The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) would officially confirm in the coming days the appointment of Cheika at the head of the Argentine national team, which has as its main objective its preparation for the World Cup of the discipline, which will be next year in France. ” It was difficult for us to make the decision but we understood that Cheika was the right person to direct Los Pumas, since he had collaborated with Ledesma, and knows the philosophy and structure of Argentine rugby,” a member of the UAR Board of Directors told the Telam news agency. In turn, the aforementioned source indicated that the possibility is being considered that Felipe Contempomi, current coach of Irish Leinster, joins as a collaborator, as well as Mauricio Reggiardo, director of rugby of Aix-en-Provence, club of France. It is worth mentioning that Cheika was an advisor to Ledesma during the Three Nations 2020 tournament, in which Los Pumas defeated the All Blacks for the first time in history,  and also in the international meetings of July and the Rugby Championship 2021.Among his main achievements, the Australian led the selection of his country to the final of the World Cup in England 2015, where he fell to New Zealand by 34 to 17.It should be remembered that the last antecedent in the driving of Los Pumas by a foreign coach was in 1999, when New Zealander Alex Wyllie managed the Albiceleste team at the World Cup in Wales.
