Deputies will debate the draft of the Council of the Magistracy

The Chamber of Deputies will begin today to debate the project on the Council of the Magistracy, which already has half sanction by the Senate. The proposal will be discussed in a plenary session of committees and the new conformation of the body that appoints and evaluates the judges will be discussed. In this way, around 12 o’clock the legislators who are part of the Constitutional Affairs and Justice committees will meet to begin the analysis of the proposal. For its part, in the Senate the project was approved with 37 votes of the Frente de Todos and some provincial blocs; while the 33 negatives were by the interbloc of Together for Change.

The bill presented by the ruling party proposes to increase the number of members of the Council of the Magistracy from 13 to 17 and creates four federal regions, which would meet in the interior of the country with the aim of giving the agency greater federalism. However, as the time that the Court gave Congress to deal with this initiative expired, the judicial body returned to its old composition.

At the same time, to complete its structure, the appointment of two legislators needs to be carried out: Martín Doñate for the ruling party and Roxana Reyes for the opposition.
