Incidents at Independiente headquarters left 48 people detained

The Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport (Aprevide) reported that 48 people were arrested during the serious incidents that occurred last night at the Assembly of Members of Independiente, which was held at the club’s headquarters in Avellaneda. The security agency, in line with what was officially warned in the previous act, will apply the right of admission to the stadiums to people who were delayed by the riots. The violence around the headquarters of Avenida Mitre 470, which lasted for more than an hour, also caused the breakage of at least two patrol cars and numerous public furniture. In addition to several supporters and police officers being injured, journalists covering the incidents unleashed during the Assembly, in which the board of directors headed by the club’s president, Hugo Moyano, approved next year’s budget, were attacked. Hundreds of members and fans of Independiente came to the door of the headquarters to protest and ask for a date to be set for the elections that were postponed by the justice due to the challenge of the list of Fabián Doman, one of the two opposition candidates. The incidents began when some demonstrators moved towards one of the side streets of the headquarters to intercept the exit of Moyano and the rest of the pro-government leaders. Since then and for more than an hour, the partners had a confrontation with the police in which stones, tear gas and rubber bullets were exchanged. For what happened, the Functional Unit of Instruction (UFI) 4, specialized in violence in sports events, took action in charge of the prosecutor Mario Walter Prieto.Because of the incidents, the Aprevide decided to suspend the match that Independiente was to play today against Atlético Tucumán in the Libertadores de América-Ricardo Enrique Bochini stadium for fear that the riots would be replicated.
