A state policeman and his wife killed in Fresnillo, Zacatecas

A Zacatecas state police officer and his wife were killed this Friday by an armed group, in an aggression that took place in the morning on José Varela Rico Boulevard in the municipality of Fresnillo.
The slain policeman was on his day off.
Another man was also injured, whose state of health is reported out of danger, reported the spokeswoman of the State Peacebuilding Board.

The aggression occurred in the Lomas de la Fortuna neighborhood, where security elements arrived and deployed an operation to try to find and arrest the murderers.
At the same time, the Attorney General’s Office of Zacatecas initiated investigations into these events.
The murders of the policeman and his wife are added to the acts of violence affecting Zacatecas, where in 2021 the politician David Monreal, of Morena, assumed the state government.

This week, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported that Zacatecas closed 2021 with the highest homicide rate per 100,000 inhabitants. The entity had a rate of 109, while the national average was 28.
During the period from January to September of this year, Zacatecas registered 964 intentional homicides and 11 femicides, according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
