Monreal says he will not seek candidacy with opposition

The coordinator of Morena in the Senate, Ricardo Monreal, said that although he aspires to the candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic, he will not seek to be so with the opposition, after he announced a tour for “reconciliation” with other political forces.
In a video, the senator said he is not fighting his party, Morena, but is working to “democratize” their struggles.
“I have fulfilled the party, I am the founder of the party, long before the leaders. I have fulfilled my legislative function, we have taken out all the reforms that the executive has been interested in,” he said about his relationship with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Monreal defended his loyalty to Morena, assuring that only two reforms of the president were pending, the electric and the electoral.

“To the militancy of Morena I say, my struggle is for principles, perhaps my audacity has been to say that I want to succeed the president, continue regime change, never a vulgar ambition. I have fought 42 years to be in this place and 26 years for Morena to win the Presidency,” he said.
He said he has his own voice and criteria, so he asked the militancy “not to pay attention to this climate of hostility because I do not deserve it.”
“I am defined, I am the founder of Morena, I am an aspirant to succeed the president of the republic,” he insisted.
He also agreed with Senator Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, who said that President López Obrador is the one who decides if Monreal continues as coordinator of the group.
“Yes, it was his suggestion that motivated me to be on the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) and of course the voice of the president is a very strong voice within the parliamentary group, in all cases and on all issues.”
