Paulina Saball clarifies that “the Government has never put forestry entrepreneurs as the first line of responsibility” for fires

The delegate for reconstruction in the southern zone, Paulina Saball, addressed the Government’s proposal for a new pact with the forestry industry and emphasized that the purpose of this is a “more harmonious coexistence” of the sector with the communities and other areas.
In conversation with Cooperativa, Saball said that “everyone, regardless of the sector to which we belong or the activity we develop, is concerned, occupies us and cares about the issue of equitable and sustainable development of our country. We all know that we are threatened by climate change, but we also want to live in a country that grows and develops.”
Along the same lines, the former Minister of Housing indicated that “we also know that our regions have different productive aptitudes, and that we have to sustainably develop the activities and potentialities of each of them. So, we know that it is a challenge that we have territorial planning agreements in each of our regions, which allow all activities and potentialities to develop, and not collide with each other.”
“For example, tourism and mining, tourism and forestry, sometimes the vineyard with the forest. So when we say that forestry activity has an important development in a certain territory, it is not enough simply that it develops, but that it coexists harmoniously so that its development is sustainable. It can always be better regulated,” he said.
Following the statements of President Boric, who slipped the idea, Saball pointed out that “the Government has never put forestry entrepreneurs as the first line of responsibilities; What he has proposed is that in the case of this fire and these localities, forestry activity is important.”
“We talk about making the productive activities of the country coexist properly and enhance human development, but also the economic development of the country. It is not that there is anything against forestry, but that what is being sought is that the potentialities of each territory contribute to the well-being of the communities, coexist harmoniously, and advance in sustainable development, “he concluded.
