Argentina to host Americas Olympic Pre-Qualifier

This afternoon at the Central Board of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Philippines, Argentina was designated as the host country of the Olympic Pre-Qualifier of the Americas that delivers places to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. After the disappointment caused by not qualifying for the World Cup in Indonesia, FIBA gave good news to Argentina by announcing the development of the Pre-Qualifier in the country, between August 12 and 20, 2023.The draw will take place next Monday, and Argentina will be the leader of one of the two groups in which four selected will participate. After an elimination in the group stage, the top two from each zone qualify for the semifinals and only the champion will get a place in the four Olympic Qualifiers, for which there is still no confirmed date or place. In this way, the Argentine basketball team will seek to get into the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in a complicated tournament that gives the opportunity to integrate the Olympic Qualifiers. There, 24 teams will be divided into four different zones, and each winner will get a ticket to Paris, while seven will arrive through the World Cup, and only France has its place assured by understanding the role of host.
