July recorded temperatures up to 7 degrees above average in northern Argentina

Last July, temperatures above average for that time of year were recorded in much of northern and central Argentina with thermal marks that exceeded averages by up to 7 degrees, said today a report from the National Meteorological Service (SMN). Meanwhile, in the extreme south of Argentina there were events of extremely low temperatures, such as in Santa Cruz that was affected by cold waves and that on July 17 registered a minimum of -22.5 in the town of Perito Moreno, “the lowest value nationwide so far this year.” According to the Quarterly Climate Forecast (PCT) released today by the SMN, the next three months will be characterized by a greater probability of having temperatures above average for the time throughout northern Argentina. In Córdoba, western Santa Fe and central and eastern Buenos Aires there is “a greater probability that temperatures will be normal or above normal,” the report detailed, while, on the contrary, in western Patagonia “normal or below normal” thermal marks can be expected.
As for the rains, the report details that they will be above normal, they are very favored in Neuquén and the west of the provinces of Río Negro and Chubut, and the northwest of Santa Cruz. In addition, in the north of the Litoral and sectors of the province of Buenos Aires the forecast indicates that rainfall may be normal or higher than the average of the quarter.
