Israel issued warning against Hezbollah not to get involved in Gaza war

On Saturday, during his visit to the Gaza Strip, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s National Security Adviser said hostilities with Hezbollah appear contained, although he warned them not to take actions that could lead to the “destruction” of Lebanon. We hope that Hezbollah will not, de facto, cause the destruction of Lebanon, because if there is a war there the result will not be less,” he said in relation to long-standing Israeli threats to launch heavy attacks on the country. In addition, the head of the National Security Council, Tzachi Hanegbi, said the limited clashes on the Lebanese border show that Hezbollah remains “below the threshold of escalation.” Days before the Hamas attack that killed some 1,300 people, Hanegbi had said the Palestinian Islamist group was deterred from attacking Israel. On this, he stressed that “it was a mistake” and that “there is no doubt that the State of Israel did not fulfill its mission.” He also took it upon himself to reject reports that Egypt had warned Israel of a possible dangerous development, but confirmed that the head of the Israeli Shin Bet received unusual intelligence. In fact, he explained that Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar held a meeting about that information at 4 a.m. on the day of the Hamas assault, but he did not consider it a concrete warning of what happened two and a half hours later.
