Morelia, Michoacán. – Under the premise that exploring different ways of mobility will allow us to move towards a more prosperous, sustainable, equitable and accessible future, Deputy Laura Ivonne Pantoja Abascal, began the Forum “Railways for passenger transport”, convened by the 65th Federal Legislature, according to a statement. In this event, held within the framework of the National Dialogue Forums, agreed by the Political Coordination Board of the Chamber of Deputies, which was headed by federal deputy Reginaldo Sandoval Flores, president of the Infrastructure Commission, the President of the Board of Directors of the State Congress, Laura Ivonne Pantoja, recalled that rail transport has a long history in the state and throughout the country. We are facing a scenario that gives us the possibility of revitalizing it with technological improvements and the vision of a more sustainable future, because the care of our environment and resources must be present at all times,” said Pantoja Abascal.Likewise, on behalf of the local deputies of the State, he endorsed the commitment to work to improve the conditions of mobility and accessibility to transport for all. For his part, federal deputy Reginaldo Sandoval explained that the purpose of this event is to strengthen the debate and opinion of the Initiative with Draft Decree by which Article 28 of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States is reformed in railway matters, for passenger transport. He stated that the initiative “seeks for the Mexican state to recover the right to use the railways to offer passenger transport service, declaring such services as priority areas for national development, through concessions or assignments,” he said. Sandoval Flores pointed out that passenger transport by rail represents a series of advantages that make it attractive both from an economic and environmental point of view, contributing to a more efficient, sustainable and safe mobility for the population. At the forum, topics such as: development of the railway industry in the country; feasibility and advantages of passenger trains in the country; technical and economic viability; conditions of the railway network in the State and international references in the field; among others. The forum featured presentations by experts and professionals in the field such as: Iker de Luisa Plazas, general director of the Mexican Association of Railways A.C.; César Rivera Trujillo, Director General of Mexican Railway Studies, Statistics and Registry of the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency; Rafael Zárate Flores, Manager of Railway and Mobility Studies at EcoUrba; Rubén Pablo López Reyes, railway consultant; Jaime Saúl Gorostiola Martínez, coordinator of the Technical Integrator of Railway Projects and Studies in Sedena.Also in attendance were the deputies Anabet Franco Carrizales, president of the Political Coordination Board of the local Legislative Power; Reyes Galindo Pedraza, Brenda Fraga Gutiérrez, Ana Belinda Hurtado Marín, Víctor Hugo Zurita Ortiz and federal legislators Marisela Garduño Garduño and Rosalinda Domínguez Flores; as well as the Secretary of Urban Development and Mobility of the State, Gladys Butanda, and the head of the State Commission of Water and Watershed Management, Roberto Arias Reyes, who expressed their support for the issue.
