What happens to disposable plastic?
According to UN figures, 9 billion tons of plastics are produced annually, including disposable products such as plates, cups, bags and bottles, among others.
In the same period, about 13 million tons of plastics are poured into the oceans, where they take hundreds of years to degrade.
Of course, the degradation process does not mean that the plastic is re-incorporated into nature, since it actually turns into microplastics that are scattered all over the planet.
